Just like the lipids in our bodies, the lipids in Omega-3 supplements are also vulnerable to oxidation. Lipid oxidation not only produces undesirable changes in flavor and scent but importantly, decreases the nutritional quality of the supplement. Unfortunately, lipid oxidation in Omega-3 supplements is quite common, with some studies finding that 68% of fish oil supplements tested had either surpassed or were approaching oxidation limitations, even with years left on their “shelf-life”!

What’s in the Proprietary Botanical Stability System?
The Proprietary Botanical Stability System in AstaMatrix® contains a synergistic blend of Rosemary, Coconut oil, and D-Limonene.
- Rosemary. Rosemary is a fragrant evergreen herb native to the Mediterranean, that is a member of the mint family Lamiaceae. The medicinal properties of rosemary have been well known since ancient times, as this herb is a rich source of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds, such as Carnosic acid and Carnosol. These and its other powerful nutrients not only fight off the oxidation of AstaMatrix®, but also the free radicals in your body. Rosemary also aids in digestion and has been found to positively impact memory, boost immunity, and improve circulation!
- Coconut Oil. Coconut oil was included in AstaMatrix® because it contains a fatty acid called lauric acid, which when metabolized, forms a substance called monolaurin. Both of these have the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi, ensuring that AstaMatrix® remains as pure and clean as it was on the day it was bottled! * Nutrient Synergy Bonus: Since Omega-3 EPA and DHA, astaxanthin and delta-tocotrienol are all fat-soluble, the healthy medium-chain fatty acids present in coconut oil help boost their absorption!
- D-Limonene: When your nose takes in the wonderful scent of citrus fruits, like oranges, lemons and limes, what you are actually smelling are the large qualities of a cyclic terpene called d-Limonene, that’s present in their rinds. The d-Limonene in AstaMatrix® is steam-distilled from orange peels and was included in our PBSS because it is a known digestive aid, and it also gives our formula an extra anti-inflammatory and antioxidant boost!
